A trip up the coast with the Sano Crew

Road tripping is all about filling up the gas tank, blasting music, pranking whoever falls asleep first, pit-stops, surfing new spots, camping and meeting up with friends along the way.

After nearly a day of being in the van, we were amped to finally reach San Francisco. Our host for the night was Pauly and he showed us a great little bar called the Hockey Haven in the Outer Richmond.

We woke up and drove around the Sunset eager to check the waves and in need of caffeine. Over a coffee at Andytown Roasters, we decided conditions might be less daunting & cleaner in Santa Cruz.

Our next stop was Pleasure Point, which was pretty exceptional for a log. The water was the coldest we'd felt in months and had me considering investing in a 4/3 sooner than later. Our evening involved setting up camp in New Brighton, just South of Capitola. We heard there was a pool hall in town with cheap appetizers and over a dozen tables, which honestly sounded like the perfect way to end the day.

Next stop... Monterey and Morro Bay! We had a few shops to visit so we roamed the towns checking out record stores, wharfs and thrift shops. The best post-surf treat we had was in Morro Bay at Giovanni's Fish Market- a dockside patio where we shared a pitcher of Bloody Marias and clam chowder fries!

That night we stayed in Montana de Oro State Park, a truly beautiful park and campground with a pristine, rocky coastline. We were feeling wiped out from a few days on the road and hadn't had a proper shower in what felt like way too long. Next on our itinerary we were headed to Ventura/LA county where we linked up with Tupi Cabrera aka Longboardarian and Puerto Rican grom Zahid

Waves were starting to get really good by the end of the week so we added an extra day to the trip. Leo Carillo was the call with a perfect tide and light crowd so we paddled out for a morning of off-shore groomed peelers. Surfed out and stoked, we said goodbye to Tupi and Zahid and packed up our smelly van to head home. We had so many great memories from the trip, lots of laughs and glad we could meet up with some friends along the way.
